Conflict Selection Criteria

Remembering and Honouring Australia’s Fallen of All Conflicts

Proposed New Plaques at Keating Park, Graceville Memorial Park & Bannerman Park

General Notes:

  1. ‘Conflicts’ listed below come from two sources: the Australian War Memorial’s ‘Roll of Honour’ and those that Australian Repatriation legislation recognises as ‘operational’ or ‘warlike’. (With the Maori Wars perhaps being an exception – see last item in the table below.)

  2. Broadly, any conflict that appears on both of the above lists AND has at least one Australian death is in the Included (Provisional) column below and all others are in the Excluded (Provisional) column.

  3. More information on these selection criteria can be found at the link: Call for Community Input. Photos of the three memorials as presently existing can be found on the above website at the link: Memorial Photos. And a mock-up of what will (provisionally) be on the planned plaque is at Plaque Mock-up.

  4. Peacekeeping operations are recognised with the generic listing ‘Peacekeeping 1947’ unless they specifically meet the criteria above.

  5. Start and end dates are those for Australian involvement – so far as that can be established; the RSL particularly seeks comment on the dates provisionally chosen.

Maori Wars. Not eligible for AWM Roll Honour, but AWM death list shows as derived from RoH, then lists zero deaths; almost certainly this is not true and is because of insufficient research.
